The Cable Guy - Have you seen the movie?

First of all, my apologies to people who work for cable companies; but I feel the movie starring Jim Carrie as a cable company representative has some merit even if it is defaming.

I had a visit from a technician of my cable company today.  The visit was necessary because I had requested a change in service, and the service rep. they sent earlier had simply removed all the service.

First of all, service reps are not technicians.  They know how to follow orders but don't understand the technical side of what they are doing.  Like everyone, service reps make mistakes.

When the technician came into my home, I gave him my TV remote control thinking he would want to surf the channels to see what crummy service I was getting.  Wrong!   The first thing he does with the remote control (without telling me) is reprogram the TV to remove some of the channels.

As if that wasn't bad enough, the technician then installs a new cable on my TV.  I had a perfectly good white cable and he installs a black one as if black is his favorite color.

Then I explain what the service rep. had done and he goes to a box outside my home and returns to say "Service restored!"; leaving me to figure out how to use the remote control to add back in those channels he had deleted using my remote control.

The interesting thing about this cable company is that their products are really quite good; but the organization is obviously pathetic.  This experience is just one example and I have had several others equally depressing.
